Ohio Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Science tells us that human life begins at conception. Understanding this fact, our Constitution guarantees rights to every human life. First and foremost: The Right to Life. We are now learning that children in the womb can feel pain at 17 weeks and most likely earlier, a child's heart begins to beat as early as 3 weeks, and each baby has their own unique set of DNA that will never be replicated. For all of these reasons, I am pro-life and against any abortion except in the case of life or serious health risks to the mother.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
The government is continuing to collect record taxes from The American People, yet we continue to run an enormous deficit. The problem is not taxes, it is spending. Entitlement programs make up over 60% of the federal budget, quadrupling military spending. I believe that the government plays a role in helping those who are struggling, but we must restructure our investment to create programs that truly lift individuals out of poverty and into the middle class while avoiding driving our Nation further into colossal debt. We must continue to work to lower taxes for ALL Americans.
No Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I believe individuals, corporations and unions should be able to do what they please with their own money. However, I do not believe any fees or dues should be forcibly collected in order to financially contribute to a campaign.
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
I believe The United States must maintain our position as the world's leading military power. In order to do this we must adequately invest. This means working closely with our top commanders and department of defense to identify their needs.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
The economy thrives when you allow individuals to keep more money in their pockets, give businesses greater opportunities to expand and encourage investment in The US. Economic development is driven by lower taxes, decreased regulation and incentives to invest in our communities.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Politicians have continued to pour money into failing public schools and programs all while attempting to limit the choices that parents have over their children's education. Added to the fact that the government has forced a one-size-fits-all standardized approach to teaching and learning, much of our education system has been broken for some time. The solution is putting more power in the hands of parents and children. This means continuing to advocate for greater school choice, proper funding of charter schools that out perform traditional public schools and equipping our children with life skills rather than "teaching to the test."
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I do not support government funding or subsidies for any energy producer, renewable or non-renewable. America is thriving as the world's leading energy producer due to our innovations in natural gas and oil production. On top of this, we are continuing to make strides towards greater renewable energy production. I support an "all of the above" energy policy that allows the American People access to the most efficient and affordable energy for their families.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
The 2nd Amendment is the foundation of our American Republic. This right to bear arms allows us to defend all of the freedoms that we hold dear. I believe in the words of our founders that our right to keep and bear arms "Shall not be infringed."
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
The healthcare industry is the most heavily regulated and subsidized industry in the country and over the past 20 years healthcare costs have increased more than any other industry. We are told that if we just give more control to the government, our costs will go down. The key to driving down healthcare costs is to allow the industry to operate more freely from the constraints of government. I will advocate for healthcare reforms that are patient-centered and consumer-driven. Open up the market to allow for greater choice and more options which in turn will lead to dramatic price reductions.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I want to welcome in as many immigrants to our Nation as possible but we must be able to control and know who is coming into our country. We must secure our border to stem the flow of drugs, human trafficking and crime so we can keep our American Citizens safe and focus on bringing in immigrants who will be assets to our Nation.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
I believe The US must only act when necessary but I support intervention when there is a direct threat to our people and interests.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I believe in free and fair trade. Free trade is a key to lower costs, greater economic development and healthy foreign relations. However, I do support tariffs in response to unfair trade practices used against the United States.
Education and Economic Development. In the 40 years that Democrat's have controlled District 11 we have been among the Nation's leaders in poverty and among the Nation's worst in education. We must first address education to assure that every individual, regardless of where they live, have an opportunity to attend a quality school. Once we establish an educated and well-trained workforce, drive down taxes and cut red-tape, businesses will be jumping at the opportunity to move in or return to Cleveland, Akron and all of Ohio's 11th District.
